To Mom:

We had a great lesson in Sunday School in our new ward wherein I learned an important principle that my Mom and her father understand and routinely practice. I write apologetically because of my unwise and immature outlook on the situation with regards to the sale of her house in Mesa. I am somewhat still trying to fully wrap my brain around the modern day application of this ideal due to certain economic theories I presently subscribe to.
When I first heard the scripture (and had it explained) I immediately thought of my Mom and this situation. I immediately saw her selfless point of view and how it follows perfectly with the scripture in Isaiah under examination in our class.

Isaiah 3:14 "The Lord will enter into judgment with the ancients of his people, and the princes thereof: for ye have eaten up the vineyard; the spoil of the poor is in your houses."

It was explained that in that day and age, the custom was for a farmer to make one pass through his field, harvesting as much product as he could, but the rest was left for the poor and needy. The greedy man would make multiple passes, collecting every last grape, leaving nothing for the poor.

My Mom could have made a "killing" on her house and priced it at "what the market could bear". Instead, she made her one pass through the field she had planted, then found a young couple (in need) and let them collect the rest. Amazing, and I am once again grateful for wise family that have lead me down the path of life.

That's tender... and wise. We all have such room for improvement.

You're right about mom and Grandpa. What other lawyer lets people pay him in old trucks, lawn mowers, and fruit? A selfless one who is trying more to give service than to get rich.

What a sweet tribute to your Mom. As moms we often wonder if we are even close to adequete when it comes to raising our children and the examples we set. This really warmed my heart. Thanks for sharing that very private and heartfelt knowledge.

sorry about that, I inadvertantly changed a setting a few days ago and didn't realize it until now. I was feeling neglected when no one was commenting! Mom, I think you mean Thursday when I went to Mesa for the conference? Well it went well and a resolution has been reached! Summers, family pick-up and drop off where some of the changes that will be taking place.

Steve, insightful and profound. Good post. Jennifer and I were just talking about putting together a web site for the family and she told me to check out the "Wolfington Blog". You guys do a good job of updating and keeping your blogs/photos current. Looks like we've already got a news year's resolution. Thanks for the good example. Hopefully we'll get something started soon here. Hope all is well with you guys in Vegas. Sorry we missed you over Thanksgiving, but we look forward to seeing you again in a few weeks.
